Retirement Planning
The Web offers many sites you can use in your financial and retirement
planning. Here are a few websites suggested by TIAA-CREF:
www.ssa.gov
The official Web site of the Social Security Administration provides
reliable information on Social Security. Useful features include:
Questions About (answers to basic questions), Online Claims
& Services (use an electronic signature to fill out applications
for benefits), and Benefits Calculators (lets you use your
personal data to prepare estimates).
www.medicare.gov
The official government site provides authoritative information on
Medicare. Useful features include: FAQs, Medicare Plan Choices
(describes retiree health insurance options, including those that
combine Medicare with private "Medigap" insurance), and
the Medicare Eligibility Tool (answer their questions about your coverage,
then it provides links to relevant information)..
Since TIAA-CREF tailored their website information
to the needs of people in education and research, it offers unique
advantages. The home page has three sections: investment performance
and portfolio information, financial products, and information related
to different financial goals.
Useful features include: Retirement Goal Evaluator
(provides a overview of how your TIAA-CREF accumulations might translate
into income), Taxation Center (provides an overview of how
retirement plans are taxed and includes a chart comparing the tax
provision of various products), and Retirement Planning Today
(discusses TIAA-CREF-funded retirement plan income choices).
Individual Consultation with TIAA-CREF
You are always welcomed to contact the Office of Human Resources
for information regarding individual retirement planning consultation
sessions with our local (Rochester) TIAA-CREF consultants. Please
give us a call at ext. 3312!
www.retirementliving.com
This site focuses on housing and lifestyle choices for retirees.
It contains information about retirement communities, state property
and sales taxes, and relocating in retirement. Useful features include:
Retirement Communities and Senior Housing (this page contains
logos of featured retirement communities), Taxes by State (this
page compares income, sales, and property taxes retirees might encounter
in each state, and notes tax exemption granted to seniors), and State
Aging Agencies (this page provides links to state agencies that
provide services, education and consultation to promote optimal independence
and the rights of older citizens).
www.kiplinger.com/planning/retirement
Maintained by Kiplinger's, the personal finance magazine,
the site provides articles on several topics with an emphasis on IRAs
and 401(k)s. Provides a "retirement tools" menu which offers
valuable calculators.
