Current Information
from the Office of Off Campus Programs

Welcome back! With the wintry winds of Geneva in January comes the prospect of off-campus programs in the coming year. This memo updates you on the programs to be offered, the application deadlines and procedures for this year, the cost of programs, and selection procedures.

First, the programs to be offered: You can find here a summary table showing programs to be offered next year (2000-2001) and a tentative forecast of those for 2001-2002. These are followed by brief summary descriptions of the 2000-2001 programs. Please look for posters on campus and web notices announcing information sessions for specific programs.

Second, a reminder of the application deadline: The application deadline for ALL 2000-2001 HWS PROGRAMS IS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27. The application deadline for all non-HWS programs is Friday, January 26. This deadline is for Fall 2001, Spring 2002, and full-year 2001-2002 programs.

Third, the application procedure: The new Off-Campus Programs application can be found here. Please print it out and use it. In particular, we call your attention to the importance of responding fully in your personal statement to the two questions on the reverse of the form. It is important that you consult with your adviser to be sure that you and your adviser are agreed on what courses will meet requirements for your major and minor.

Fourth, the cost of programs: The Board of Trustees will set tuition and fees for the coming year at its meeting on February 12. We expect that the Board will approve charges for off-campus programs based on the same rates as for on-campus study, plus a 500 administrative fee. We will advise you immediatly after February 12 if this is not so.

Fifth, selection procedures and acceptance decisions: Admission to virtually all programs is highly competitive. Selections are made by faculty directors, off-campus program administrators, and the deans. We expect to be able to notify all students of admission decisions by the end of Winter Term, if not sooner. The deadline for deposits securing your place in a program for 2000-2001 is April 3.

Please stop by to see us for further information and with any questions you might have. The opportunity to participate in off-campus programs is one of the most special opportunities available to you here at HWS. Don’t let it go by!
