The Pulteney St. Survey is the official magazine of Hobart and William Smith Colleges. It is published three times a year by the Office of Communications, and distributed to alumni, alumnae, faculty, staff, students, and parents of current students.

The Pulteney St. Survey contains articles about current people, events, and policies of the Colleges; about fundraising and sports; and about the history of the Colleges. It contains profiles of the Colleges' graduates, as well as classnotes, submitted by correspondents on behalf of each class of Hobart and William Smith individually.

Calm and Quiet Faith People who tell the story of Allen Kuuisto's presidency usually begin the same way: "When Allen came here, the Colleges were in trouble." His death this spring begged us to consider again the meaning of the Kuusisto era, from which HWS emerged stronger and happier. It turns out, as one trustee puts it, "He was the right man at the right time."

Larger Cause Commencement 2000 was the first with Mark Gearan at the helm. So it was altogether fitting that the focus was on public service. The one-time Peace Corps director invited former ambassador to the United Nations, to speak, and he isssued a call to serve - though not before raving about a local pizza joint.
