Position Description

Assistant Professor - Tenure Track

Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology at Hobart and William Smith Colleges invites applicants for a tenure track faculty position in Personality Psychology to begin Fall 2008. The position is at the Assistant Professor level but extraordinary candidates at the Associate level may be considered.

We seek to hire a gifted teacher-scholar who can teach core and laboratory courses in Personality Psychology, an advanced seminar in an area of specialty, and one additional course from among the following: Introductory Psychology, Statistics and Research Methods, or a General Education course. We encourage applications from candidates in all areas of Personality Psychology. We especially welcome applications from individuals who address issues of ethnic diversity in their teaching or research, are interested in contributing to the Colleges' interdisciplinary programs, and can serve as role models for students from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Candidates should have or be near completion of the Ph.D. and be committed to teaching and developing an active research program in a small, residential, liberal arts institution.

The Department of Psychology has a strong record of attracting and serving talented students and has excellent laboratory, office, and classroom facilities.  Candidates may find especially attractive opportunities to participate in the Colleges' extensive foreign study programs and numerous interdisciplinary programs and departments, including those in Arts & Education, Child Advocacy; Cognition, Logic & Language, Critical Social Studies; Education, Law and Society; Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Studies; Media and Society; Public Policy; Urban Studies; and Women's Studies.
